Default Stupid bed question

2001 Dodge 1500 Sport
I'm trying to find a used bed cover, locally, but am a little confused on the size of the bed.

when I measure the length of the bed, it measures about 80 inches, or 6' 10".

Is that considered the 6' 6" bed?

Will a cover for any other generation work?

There’s a 6 1/2 foot bed and 8 foot bed

I've got the 8 foot bed on my truck and trying to find a good used roll-up tonneau cover has been tough to-date.

I have used covers from 3rd gen trucks. They'll fit but due to the back of the 3rd gen box tapering in the velcro at the back is hard to get to stay hooked as it has to stretch farther and not as much catches.

I'm using a 4th gen bed cover on my 3rd gen so in theory they could also fit, the 4th gen has a little more bow to it yet so by the time it makes it to fitting a 2nd gen it may be to much. I haven't tried that one yet.
