There are ways to deal with that issue. Add 48RE drums to it, which hold more clutches. In addition, add Reybestos JPZ clutches for greater holding power. If you add additional horsepower, the transmission will need to be beefed up to handle the power. Folks are building/beefing up 48RE transmissions to go behind high horsepower/torque diesel and they are holding up well to my knowledge.
