Pulling a hill
Hello all
So after almost a year of getting parts and putting my truck back together it is done so I thought.
I just took my trailer here in town to see what it would do and flat ground the truck does great and has no problems. But as soon as I hit a good hill it bogs way down. I just did the timing chain and all new wires plugs M1 intake and water pump and even got a performance PCM on it as well. The transmission was just rebuild as well so I don’t know?
the truck is a 1995 ram 1500 5.9 gas with 3.55 gears this thing should be a pull monster from what everyone says.
ooo I have gone through the whole truck with new vacuum lines too so I don’t think that is it.
help?

Is the check engine light on? If so, are there any pending or stored trouble codes in the PCM? Is the exhaust flow good (possible clogged catalytic converter)? If the exhaust flow is questionable, you can try removing the O2 sensor from the cat to see if it does any better... What type of spark plugs are in the engine and are they relatively new? Is the transmission shifting properly when you get to the hill (downshifts as it pulls the hill and the throttle is opened)? If not, has the TV cable been adjusted properly (if not, check YouTube for a video on the adjustment process).

There are no codes coming from the PCM it’s obd1 so it seems to take a lot for it to throw a code.
I just had a new exhaust put on the truck along with the 1992 360 large mouth manifolds got to love California they don’t like headers of any kind
the spark plug are about a year old E3 diamond fire but will be changing the to auto light here in the next few days. The truck will shift down into the gears rear nicely but I am well over 3500rpm in first gear climbing the one hill but it is a big grade I know they call it Domino Hill when you are going down it since people always let there breaks get hot going down. The only thing I think I could do is put better gears.
sorry but the cat is also new for the most part maybe two years old
With the M1 intake, you likely lost a bit of bottom end torque, so the 3.55 gearing is making the truck a bit sluggish on the steep grade. Some 3.92 or 4.10 gears would certainly wake it up, however, the front and rear differentials will need matching gear ratios installed to keep the 4x4 working properly.

do you know if they made axles in my 9.25 and 44 from the factory with lower gears. I would love to just pick a set up from the junkyard?
Anything else that may help?

I've been told that the Dodge Ram Off-Road Edition trucks and the SST optioned trucks had axles with steeper gearing. Both are rare and difficult to find, however, I did happen to find a 9.25 3.92 rear axle with limited slip last year and sold it since I didn't need it.

Yeah, the Off Road edition trucks had 4.10 gears from the factory. The are the holy grail of 1500's though...... Dodge offered some optional gears from the factory, but, from what I have seen, not many folks opted for other-than-standard gearing....
