Back when certain vehicles where new Mopar performance or Direct connection as they where known back then offered performance pcm's. They where only available for something like 5-10 years after the vehicle came out so now they are hard to come by.
Please forgive my ignorance, but what does the mopar performance pcm do for you? I know nothing about these.
It's just an out of the box performance tune. They give you a bit more power by adjusting ignition timing, probably adjust the fuel trim to make the mixture a little more rich at times, and increase the rev limiter.
Extra power is nice for anyone, although the 92 octane fuel requirement would hurt a bit. For me one of the main attractions is increasing the rev limiter. My car is a solid 1200 lbs lighter than the 2nd gen trucks, plus I have the M1 intake, headers, and a small cam. The car wants to keep pulling way past the 5200 rpm limiter the stock PCM provides.

They brought Direct Connection back! I think it is pretty neat

Ugh... $100. If only I had known that years later I would have a 95 5.9 Magnum! And like @HeyYou said, i shudder to think of how many ended up in scrap yards.

I guess my question is, what advantages does the high performance pcm offer over the standard pcm.
