Boy do I feel like a dummy. lol No wonder it went so easy. I did notice that sensor is easy to get to but the wiring seems to disappear into the harness. I will find out by this weekend.

Just think about the money you're saving by doing the job yourself. That makes up for any mistakes in the process, since the repair shops tend to make mistakes that you get to pay for if you choose that option...

Not surprising. I don't mind making mistakes that I can learn from. This has helped me understand reading codes better. I was actually shocked it cam out so easy to be honest.I didn't even have to cut the wires. I just put the open in on it and tapped it a couple of times lightly.

Apparently, that sensor had likely been replaced before since it came out easy. If the next sensor puts up a fight, please be sure to remove the connector, put a box end wrench over the wire/connector of the old sensor and remove it. Hammer blows to the wrench in the direction of loosening work wonders. Heat from a torch can also be helpful in the removal of a stubborn sensor, too.

Wife had the truck since it was at 21,000 miles and to my knowledge it has never been replaced. it's at 166,000 miles. She bought in 1999. I'm thinking I was just lucky on this and PB did it's job. lol. I'm in the process of bringing her back to her former glory for our daughter that she wanted to pass it on to. This truck really didn't see a lot of problems over the years. Most I'm dealing with is due to it sat for some time before I had the time and money to get back into it. It's a daily driver for me Thanks for the help.

A 4 wire sensor, both upstream and downstream, are the same. It's the length of the cable (Dodge) that changes the part number. Or buy a universal 4 wire and splice together (NTK please). If buying one with a connector, make sure it has the round one like the picture, yea I know it's a Denso. I bought 4 really long ones (NTK) because 4 were in the box, I folded then zip tied the extra length. The downstream o2 sensor is there to monitor the gasses as they exit the cat, just ensuring the cat is still good. It has nothing to do with fuel/air mixture only to set a code, turn a light on, when the cat is finished, clogged, or empty. There are 3 o2 sensors on my 01 Heavy Duty (HD,Ca emissions), as there is only a single exhaust. 2 into 1.
