This is an older comparison but gives you some idea on what to look for. They don't go into detail about flow rates or particulate filtration but if you do some searching you can find other tests with that info. Also you can compare the manufactures specs but i wouldn't be surprised if they exaggerated them. After i seen this i remembered that there was a episode of engine masters that they tested some oil filters. The K&N was the top choice. I believe they where actually testing flow rates though.

I love this topic. Put this up years ago for V10 owners.
51515 fits your 5.9 Magnum.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the help! Walmart was sold out of pretty much everything, but they had Mobile 1 oil and filters, so that's what I used. I had a ~850 mile trip I had to go on, so I didn't have time to wait for other stuff to come in stock.

Just FYI, Chrysler made a 90 degree adapter for small block engines that allows for oil filter access in odd situations.
Have that 90 part number?

The small block 90 degree oil filter adapter kit was available through Mopar Performance as 5249624AB. These types of adapters were used on some stock LA small block motors from the early 60's onward. Not sure what any of those older part numbers are. If you Google "Chrysler small block 90 degree oil filter adapter kit", you will find them. These fit magnum motors, too.

Anyone know the STP XL part number? Cross referencing I found S8AXL but want to confirm. Looking to run a larger filter on my 5.9 magnum 4x4 and was hoping to cash in on an Autozone bundle

That number appears correct. It crosses over to the Wix 51515 bigger capacity filter I use on my V10, which uses the same filter series used on the v8's.

STP? Are they still in business? Most manufactures will have a cross reference on their web site.

Yeah, the *8* is most likely the PH8A et al, so it'll fit. If it's 3/4-16, it will almost surely fit.

AFAIK STP has always been an AutoZone house brand. Nothing wrong with it.

After some digging found out they are made by Champion Laboratories who makes Champ oil filters. Quality? Since you are looking to run a larger filter might look into the flow and particulate filtration specs of different filters(video above). Just my .
