Having the same problem on my '98 3500. Was away for a month, came back to dead battery, got it jumped but all gauges dead. New battery and still dead. Is there maybe another reset function? I'll be following the thread, thanks.

On the 98 and up trucks, all the gauges are driven by the cluster itself, from information it gets on the communications bus. Usually, if the bus fails, you will get the "No Bus" message in the odometer. If you aren't getting that..... I am not entirely sure what would cause ALL of them to stop working....

Truck is about an hour away, I'll verify about the "No Bus" next time I"m up. Thanks.

Just closing the loop on my issue here. It was definitely a bad cluster. I was able to get partial lights on the old one by removing the retaining screws and jiggling it. Found a replacement at a wrecker for $100 cdn and fired right up. Only issue is the change in the odometer. Mine was 260k and this one is 160k. The truck is old and plan is to kepe it till the doors fall off, but what is the best practice for keeping track of real mileage in the event I do have to sell it?

Make note of the mileage on the old cluster when it was replaced, and the mileage on the replacement cluster, (which you have already done.) Keep it in the glovebox. I know secretary of state here has cool little metal stickers for replacing speedos with NEW units, but, so far as I know, they make no provisions for used parts.

I seen on another forum there is a hand held unit for changing the mileage. Not sure if it works on our trucks or not. Don't know how they are even getting away with making them since it's illegal to change the odometers. The dealer may be able to do it with a DRB3.

When I worked at the Chevy dealer, if we were doing a cluster replacement, we had to send them out to have the mileage programmed. We didn't have the capability to do it ourselves.....

Consider some of the 'less than honest' dealers out there. If they had the capability roll back mileage easily on their used cars...... you would never be able to trust the odometer again.

I also read that you can remove the chip in the dash(that holds mileage) or body control module and swap it with the replacement. Again just what i read so don't know how true it is. Check out the link, Maybe you need special glasses to see the text or the links.
