Anyone replaced the factory 3rd brake light with an alternative? If so, what?

My original 2nd gen third brake light looks old and faded, so I'm thinking about replacing it. Has anyone replaced theirs with something other than an original 2nd gen third brake light? If so, what did you use (photos of the replacement are helpful), was it more or less plug and play and are you still happy with it?

I got an LED one from Amazon several years back… less than $30.
Plug-n-play.
I set it in a thin bead of silicon to make sure it didn’t leak.
Still works and looks fine.

If it's fading, run a headlight restorer on it and I put in bright LED's.

Thanks for the thoughts. Those were my 1st thoughts as well, however, I wondered what others may be doing or have used to replace their factory light setup. Yes, mine is definitely fading after all of these years.

I put a chrome one in but had to be modified. The cargo lights stayed on. I can show you what needs to be done if you want. They make them as a switched ground where ours are switched power.

Thanks. Does anyone know if a 3rd gen 3rd brake light can work on a 2nd gen truck?
