Default Steering gear box replacement

I have to replace the steering gear box on my 1997 B3500 van, prices are all over from about $200 for ultra cheap and probably crap to $800 from higher end companies. I don't want to have to replace it again in 6 months, and yet I don't think I need to spend $800 for a basic American van gear box. Anybody have good advice on a middle of the road (pun intended) steering gear box that is good quality but won't break the bank? Any info greatly appreciated.

If you can find a NEW box, that would be best. The reman fellers that your local parts store sells, are a crap shoot, might be better, might be worse than what you currently have in there.... Have you tried adjusting your steering box yet?

My box is totally shot, the van was in a small accident where the right wheel got jammed and the box broke inside, I can't even steer it! I know there will be more to fix (Doing all new Moog control arms, tie rod ends, then see if it takes alignment) I did see an Edelmann for about $400 that looks like quality...any experience with that brand?

I think I might be able to get an old stock OEM for around $400 as well... not sure which would be better...

If you can get a new OEM for the same price as someone's reman, I would go with the new box.
