Default Fuel filters // bad fuel injectors

I just had one or more fuel injectors go bad on my 1996 Ram 1500 Pace truck with 5.9. I replaced the fuel pump about 3 years ago and when I did I totally swabbed out the fuel tank so it was super clean inside. However 3 years and about 20k miles at least and I have one or more bad fuel injectors, I am wondering if the filter on the end of the fuel pump is enough, to my knowledge there is no other fuel filter on this truck. Has anybody spliced in an extra fuel filter after the pump, and/or does anybody think this is necessary or would help? Any info greatly appreciated.

Glad to see i am not the only member that has a Indy truck! The fuel pumps have a "sock" style filter on the suction side of it. Are you sure the injectors are bad because of debris in them?

The stock system actually works fairly well. My 96 had over 200K miles on it when I sold it, still the original pump. There are other examples out there in the world as well. Fuel injectors usually fail from the coil windings inside them coming apart. Simple resistance check can usually tell you whether they are good or not.

I am not sure, but just got an engine code that said #4 injector was not functioning, and I read about how common it is for these trucks to get bad injectors.

Verify the PCM is actually trying to control the injector first. (noid light) If the pcm is doing it's job, swap injectors and 4 and 6, see if the code moves with the injector. if it does, yep, replace it.

The general rule of thumb used to be, if you have one bad, replace one. If you have two bad, replace them all.... on a high mileage truck, if you have one bad, just replace 'em all.
