With that list of experience you'll have no problem. T-cases are pretty simple and I think they're a lot of fun. There should be plenty of YT vids on the 231.

This is a 241 but post #13 has a few pics of a shift fork with missing pads (which is what prevents metal-on-metal contact)
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...carnage-2.html

But remember to rule out linkage/shifter problems (ie any external problems) before ripping into the t-case looking for internal problems

Thankyou Mr. Keith_L. Earlier in this thread I asked about the 3 pin electrical connector near the output shaft of the t-case. I was informed it was a vehicle speed sensor and if the speedometer works then that plug is doing its job but the plug is missing on mine however the speedo definitely still works... Do you have any insight into this? Could this missing plug be part of my problem?

Nah, think of it this way: that would only be to send information OUT, but the shift fork(s) move mechanically no different than shifting a manual transmission. Nothing electrical could preclude 2hi, and really nothing vacuum could, either.

If you're truly not getting 2hi the t-case isn't being given the correct mechanical, physical "commands" because the linkage isn't winding up where it should be, or your range fork is unhappy and needs attention.

What's the stupid big plastic sensor that screws into the driver side of the tx and always strips when people overtighten it?

Output speed sensor. But, that is only used by the PCM for shifting purposes.
