Default Random No Bus Error

Over the weekend my tuck has developed a rather annoying issue. It will start to chime a few times along with a airbag, abs, and check engine light. The odometer also reads no bus and all the gauges in the car stop working as well. Luckily it has not happened while driving, but rather when I first start the truck. It seems to clear on its own as well some times, while other times I have to cycle the key until it starts working. Not really even sure where to start on this as far as diagnostics go. I did check all fuses and they are good. I also gave a real quick once over on the wiring and checked the connections to the computer on the passenger side firewall and all looks good.

No buss is a "lac of communication" fault. You need to check more closely at the connectors that carry the can buss signals(from the pcm to the dash). The can buss is how the dash gets it's "information" to work.

I appreciate the reply, this weekend it seems I will be having a wiring party. I'll chase down each wire individually and hopefully find the issue.

The problem seems to be mostly at the plugs where it connects to the pcm. In theory if you put some (carbon conductive grease) on the female side of the plug(can buss wires) it may help the connection. But i have never tried it because all my vehicle are pre can buss. Be carefull not to get any where it could "short" the terminals.

I've the same problem with a 2000 Ram 1500 Van, only it stalls while driving. After checking all the connectors, and researching on the 'net, if all the wiring and grounds are good, and the problem "comes and goes", it is almost certainly the PCM that is failing. Mine does it after 8 or 10 miles, after it warms up to operating temp. After it sets and cools down, it will start again.
Hope this helps someone .... I'm currently searching for a replacement PCM. If that proves to be the trouble, I will post it as the solution for mine.

The can buss only controls the dash. The engine should still run regardless. Sound like you have a heat sensitive sensor somewhere(crank sensor most likely).

More details on my prior post: When the NO BUSS error is displayed, the gauges do not function and the engine will turn over but no start, or if running it stalls when NO BUSS appears. Turning the ignition to on position, if NO BUSS does not appear, gauges work and engine starts and runs fine. It appears that the NO BUSS error is directly related to the no start condition as well as the gauges function or not.
