Transfer Case compatibility.
Question about a Transfercase. I got a Transfercase and it says on it 97- 98 but my old Transfercase says 96-97 what's the difference and ive read about the speedo not working but I got it to work. Also did they change the 4x4 position around between the two or no

The transfer case you need for that truck should have a round hole in the side of it that will support the variable speed sensor (VSS) for the speedometer cable to connect to. In addition, the 4x4 shifter bolts to the side of the transfer case. Later year transfer cases did away with the VSS provision and I believe the 4x4 shifter bolts up in a different manner.

Alright so another question the gears are good in my old transfercase could I swap the gears out of the old case and put them in the new case or do you think it wouldn't work. I also did change the tail out with the one from the old TCase and put the speed sensor in and turned it a little bit and the speedometer works. The ony thing now is the gears swap would it change the 4×4 back to normal then

So this is the old TransferCase and to be straight forward ive never had to deal with a transfercase before ive never actually had to ask for advice or help especially on these sites so there ya go 1STAR!... I wasn't sure if it made any difference about the gears or any of it but with the speedometer sensor idk if anyones looked at and the number on it but i forgot to mark it so it got twisted and when i put the end off the old transfercase onto the new one i put on the clips and the sleeve for the speed sensor and that was all it took for the speedometer to work
