Default Interior lights turn on when parking brake is released

Howdy all.

This post is for a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.2L

Recently in the past few weeks my interior dome and cab lights have turned on when I release my parking brake with the handle. They generally turn off after the truck hits a bump or gets jostled, but this morning they remained on for the entire drive, even after turning off the vehicle. They did not turn off until I engaged the parking brake.

No electrical work or aftermarket upgrades have recently been done. I replaced the brake release handle itself about 3.5-4 months ago.

This is also the only electrical/light issue that I've experienced (knock on wood).

Has anyone experienced this issue or have any insight on a fix?

You can find the service manual for your truck here. Wiring diagrams are in section 8W. See what the two system have in common, and go from there.

Appreciate the welcome.
I've checked the service manual with no luck, hence why I'm here and a couple fb groups...there isn't a connection that I can find between the e-brake release handle (non-electric) and the interior cab lights.

Update: The issue has caused a parasitic draw strong enough that it killed my battery last night. Got the battery on a trickle charger, but no-joy on the causal factor yet.

Need to look and see what is moving around when you release/step on the pedal. Likely you have a harness that is worn thru, and is grounding out when the pedal is released.

Start with looking at the switch in the door jamb. Could be loose, worn down etc.
