Default Headlights

Hey guys, I have a 1998 Ram 1500 and have been looking at getting new headlights for it. The previous ones are so fogged over and the led strips arent working. I was wondering what kind of projector conversion would work best? Or if someone has a brand that they think is the best

Lightbulb

If you want to improve the existing fogged headlight lenses on the cheap, you can use Mother's Mag polish to buff them out with a microfiber towel or two.

If you want to improve overall light output, you can install sport headlights, which has two bulbs on each side of the truck/headlight unit. In order to install the sport headlights, you will need a relayed headlight harness, since the sport headlights take more power for them to operate. If the relayed harness isn't added, your headlight switch and its wiring harness will fail in short order.

I don't really want to go with buffing them out. I'd rather just get something new. Could you send me the link for the harness please? I'm not really sure what I'm looking into getting yet for lights

If you're going with stock lenses just get something that clearly states it's CAPA certified. TYC can be a good option.

A true, quality projector system is $$$. What's your budget? Don't buy anything from eBay that looks like kids who watch Fast 'N Furious would want. It might look cool but actual light projection will be dismal.

Honestly best bang for the buck is probably the Sport upgrade. Use some quality bulbs and the relays will make sure full voltage is getting to the bulbs. If that's not enough, an inexpensive light bar will do it, although they're technically illegal on most public roads. I still use light bars, but I live very rural on quiet roads with LOTS of deer (and elk). I'm very mindful of oncoming traffic.

I think my budget is probably around $500. I wanna get something quality but I don't want to spend like $1500

Here is a link for the relayed harness I use in conjunction with the sport headlights - while not cheap, it's made extremely well and I'm too lazy to make one up myself. As Keith L mentioned, please be sure to use quality headlight bulbs with the sport headlights (Sylvania Silverstar, for example). Lastly, if you search this forum for the sport headlight upgrade, you'll find plenty of information about the subject.

There are some "true" projectors housings available, The problem i see with them is they don't tell you what projector is in it. The projector housings are plastic in a lot of them and can melt/deform and loose the reflective surface. If you are up to the task get clear lens housings and put in a decent projector in it(retrofit). A good Bi-Xenon HID projector is far better than any # of halogen bulbs.

Last year I was in the same situation as you. I bought new housings/lenses from Rockauto, and these bulbs from Amazon. I really could not be happier. Cheap, and amazing difference.
