Hi everyone. Long time listener, first time caller. I have a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 360/46RE Laramie SLT. To start I’ve owned this truck for a little over a year, and during that year I’ve always had a P0743 code. I’ve ignored it largely in part due to it not having much of an affect on drivability. We’ll just before thanksgiving I decided to change the TCC. A messy but relatively simple job. The only issue it gave me before hand was the RPMs jumping from 2000-2300 rpm at highway speeds intermittently. Then the problem might not reappear for a few days. And when it did happen would only last for 10-15 minutes of driving. Since replacing the TCC, my problem has worsened drastically. When I first leave my house (engine cold) it drives and shifts as everything should. But one it reaches operating temperature, and I slow down to turn around and head back home the code reappears and it goes into what I understand to be limp mode. (2nd gear takeoffs and no O/D. I’ve changed the TV cable now, (which I thought for sure was it due to all 8 wire being frayed, I used the crimp/shrink connectors supplied with the Rostera pigtail kit and I’m near 100% positive that I didn’t connect the incorrect wires as I just followed the wires around the plug and did one at a time) the TPS sensor, and I’m in the middle of changing the second Output Shaft Speed Sensor. (Hoping the previous “NEW” one may have been bad.) I’ve heard many opinions in Dodge groups on FB of it could be this or that, but I am at a complete loss as to how my issue has gotten worse since replacing the TCC. If anyone could please lend me their knowledge it would be greatly appreciated. If you did thank you for reading my essay.
Yes, my fluids are full I’ve checked them at operating Temperature in neutral.
TCC solenoid works by being supplied voltage, via the trans relay in the PDC, (controlled by the PCM....) and the PCM either grounds it, or not. When I had issues with TCC bounce, (move the gas pedal even a little bit, and it would disengage/reengage) it was just a failing TPS sensor. Mine never set a code though..... Yours indicates a problem with the wiring. Essentially, it ain't seeing 12 volts on the circuit. That's either a bad solenoid, or a bad connection somewhere. Could be at the trans, in the trans, or at the PCM..... Do you have a scanner that can read live data?
Unfortunately no I do not. Just a regular ole’ code scanner. Could there be a chance that the replacement TCC is bad? I’ve had bad parts, but it’s been quite a long time.
Here is the code as it shows.
See if you are getting voltage thru the solenoid. With engine running, (trans in Neutral please....) you should see 12 volts on the Orange/Black wire. PCM grounds that wire to lock the TCC.
