Exclamation Replaced ignition key cylinder. Immobilizer now on.

1996 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L, 4WD, v8 Magnum. My old ignition cylinder broke after trying to start, so I replaced it. I left the battery connected while replacing the cylinder, in case that is what I did wrong. but now the immobilizer is on, so the truck will go into accessory mode just fine, then when I go to turn the key and hear the crank, nothing happens. There is no click from the starter as if it was dead, the starter is brand new. I can hear my fuel pump priming, so everything is going according to its programming, and then the engine just refuses to crank. I am assuming it's the alarm system, but I don't know where it is located. Before I started working on my truck by myself, my mechanic replaced the old alarm and security system, but it should still be in the same location. I'm not sure whether to yank out the alarm and put a new one in or try to reset my alarm somehow. Does anybody know how to reset the security system on a 1996 Dodge RAM?

That information "might" be in the factory service manual - download the copy for your year truck here and take a look - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html

The FSMs don't show the Vehicle Theft/Security System (VTSS) until the 98 model year. If it's really a 96 then it's an aftermarket system.

It's 100% a 96. would you happen to know where people tend to place the aftermarket systems? Thanks.

Look under the dash, near the steering column. Likely it's to one side of it, or the other.

The 96 has an "analog" starting system with no computer involvement. There is a dark blue/yellow wire coming from the ignition switch which changes to yellow/red at the clutch interlock switch. Automatics have simply a jumper in that connector. I'd guess any aftermarket system is spliced in there.
