46RE REALLY late shift into 3rd and immediate upshift to 4th
I saw their site while researching different parts. My friend's shop will likely get me a rebuild with an upgraded torque converter and shift kit for $2000 out the door (I find out on Monday), but I do really want this thing to last considering how much money and love I've put into it. Are those tranny's really worth the extra price? I'm afraid if I went with that I'd also have to splurge on the orange powder coating to match my valve covers, radiator fan, oil pan, and diff cover lol

Depends on how much power your engine will be putting out. If it's mostly stock, a stock trans can live a long life behind it, if properly taken care of. I had 200K on my 96 when I sold it, still the original trans, and it still worked great. I have 160K+ on my 98, (8.0/47RE though...) and I have no issues with it. A rebuild with quality parts, can outlast the rest of the truck.
(which is a problem here in michigan..... might be mechanically sound, but, it is rusting away to nothing, like my 96.....)
"Scope Creep".

The engine is bone stock. Unfortunately (for this hobby) I'm in CA so getting anything non-stock smogged is a bitch and a half. Sounds like I might just go the relatively stock route with some QOL upgrades. I plan on keeping this truck for many, many years to come so I'll definitely be keeping her in ship shape

Gas mileage isn't one of 'em though. If I can break into double digits, I feel I am doin' good.
Fortunately, it's only 7 miles to work, and I don't really drive that much. Less than 5K per year.
