engine cut out

Angry engine cut out

Hello, I just had a reman engine installed. the mechanic that preformed the work has no idea what is going on.
the engine was installed from powertrain products. it will run for an undetermined time the completely cut out, start backfiring
will have to put truck in neutral the restart several times. on the highway it cuts out for about 3 seconds then catches and
re-powers...im at my wits end...help .help please!

Have a look at the crankshaft position sensor. They are frequently victims of engine R&R.

thanks Hey You...would the cam shaft position senser be a culprit also?

Maybe, but, it is a bit better protected. It hides under the distributor cap... so, relatively safe there. Wires sometimes get crunched between engine and trans though....

yes, i believe that was one of the codes, is it better to replace them?
the mechanic did put in a new distributer, can those things arrive defective?
your help is greatly appreciated ! ! !

When I swapped my engine a while back, I installed a new distributor without issue. Might also want to ensure that the mechanic set the fuel sync properly, as that's a common issue anytime the distributor or engine timing is disturbed.
