I have a 2000 Dodge 1500, 5.2L (318), RWD automatic 46RE, with just over 300k miles! Yes, she has been a beauty. My daughter's bf put oil in the transmission (DUMBA--!!) I have flushed to the best of my ability but still not good. When I put into R or D kills the engine. Am considering replacing the transmission (engine still purrs like a kitty). Any other ideas or suggestions as to why engine dies would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
Does it die if you put it in neutral? If you put it in drive, or reverse, does it jerk hard and die, or does it just stop running?

no sir. last time would barely go when I moved to where sitting now. last couple times I tried have been getting jerks and die. if I don't need to change transmission and problem is something else that would be great
I'm not experienced enough to give a proper answer, but isn't hard to imagine a scenario in which incompatible oils don't allow the clutches to fully release at no/part throttle. Kinda like popping the clutch with the brake applied on a manual transmission. Valve body, seals, accumulator piston or clutch pack, some or all of these. The hard apply shifting your truck into drive is a clue.

What weight oil? If it was 20-50 the converter could be engaging because of the thickness of the oil. How did you flush it? The fluid doesn't circulate in park it has to be in neutral. You may need to get the rear wheels off the ground and put it in drive. That will flush out the converter.
