99 Ram Door speaker wiring non Infinity system
I have a question about wiring aftermarket speakers on the factory wiring in my 99 ram, I put some aftermarket speakers in about five years ago, and I think they have crapped out, interestingly, and almost the same time. The drivers door completely quit, then a couple months later the passenger door speaker started cutting out and now it’s completely dead. Rear speakers work fine. I actually just put a brand new head unit in also, partly because I got a great deal on a new one, and partly because I thought it might cure the problem, which it did not.
I’m hoping that the factory wiring is OK, I have not taken the old speakers out to do a check yet. I thought I would ask first about running new wires to those speakers if I had to, and what all would be involved in that or if it’s pretty straightforward just to run them through the little rubber conduit between the door and the body. This is not my daily driver, and I don’t want to get involved in a huge project of tearing everything apart just to run a couple speaker wires, any first hand knowledge would be great.

Likely the speakers failed, not the wiring... if it IS the wiring though, the break will most likely be in that rubber tube between body and door..... Running new wires isn't too much of a stretch, but, there IS a fair bit of disassembly involved.
Knee panels, door panels, etc.

It was a nice day today, so I removed the passenger door panel, removed the speaker and tested - the speaker tested OK, and used a known good speaker to hook up to the existing wiring, no sound. So… fault somewhere between the head unit and speaker. I failed to mention an important fact - I had the heater core replaced a few months ago, the drivers speaker didn’t work afterward and the passenger speaker failed shortly after that one failed. I’m guessing they may have pinched wires during the work. I decided to test on my own, I figured they could possibly screw more up removing the entire dash again than it would be worth.
You don't have to remove the dash, test continuity of each wire from the head unit to the speaker. May try moving the wires at different locations to see if you get continuity back then you know where the problem is.
