Yea, all Id use a cap for is temporary. I wouldn't even glue it, just make it so if you accidentally toss your toddler on the dash they don't disappear into the abyss
I ordered the replacement dash cap and dash face from LMC truck and had my mechanic swap them out for me while he was replacing the heater core, a/c condenser, AND fixing my blend door actuator....it totally changed the look and feel of the interior. If my carpet wasn't so stained and the driver's side seat bolster wasn't torn, it would look like a brand new truck. Those dash pads are not inexpensive, but if you plan to keep that truck around very long, it's well worth it! Now I just gotta find me a new cupholder.....
I'm about the perform a dash replacement in my truck soon, likely in the fall when these high temperatures cool down. I found a donor truck not too far from me via Facebook Marketplace that had a very nice lower dash in it that matched the color of my dash, so I took a variety of tools with me and pulled the entire dash out of the donor truck. I had to drop the steering column to get the dash out of the truck and disconnect the wiring harness, etc. After I got home with the donor dash assembly, I decided to go back and pull the HVAC box out of the truck as well. Removal of the HVAC box is pretty easy once the entire dash has been removed from the truck. The hardest part is removing the A/C dryer from the firewall to access the nuts on the studs holding the HVAC box behind the metal plate on the firewall.
I plan to install a new top dash that I've already purchased onto the donor dash and rebuild the entire HVAC box with new heater core, A/C evaporator, blend doors, vacuum lines, etc. Once the temperatures calm down, I'll swap the entire dash and rebuilt HVAC box into my truck, as my existing top and lower dash are falling apart after 28+ years of UV exposure and hot & cold cycles.
Since I plan to keep my truck for quite some time and only drive it when I need to haul things, I'm trying to do my best to keep the truck fully functional, looking good and on the road as long as possible.
Hey I have a 2001 and my dash was completely shot. I went with the dash cap but it was around $120 on eBay. I have been really pleased with it but a single vent on the passenger side is mishaped. The rattle I had from busted dash was awful but now I hear nothing when driving. Also, it was glued around all the edges and I replaced my bezel and vents.

Do you put glue on the whole underside of the dash cap, or does it only connect to the sides? My main annoyance is the rattle that the broken dash makes... I'm tempted to try one of the $70 dollar dash caps on Ebay, but don't want to waste the money and still end up buying a $300 dash from Geno's or wherever y'all recommend...
Here's what my dash currently looks like.
Sorry for the bad pics, but they're what I have on my phone.
Looking forward to hearing what y'all recommend!
Thanks in advance.
