Default 98 Ram Build Sheet questions

Hello,

My wife and I found and purchased a 98 Ram Club Cab, 5.2L V8 LWB 4x4 that we have been wanting for the past 10 years.

I initially got the build sheet to find out what transmission it came with.

Also, over the past couple of weeks, we have been thinking about getting a travel trailer.

I know the truck can tow 7400lbs, but we already have other stuff (mechanic tools, floor jack, tow strap, spare 34” BFG AT tire with rim to match other tires/wheels, and a cab height camper top (came with the truck from previous owner).

I estimate truck to tow roughly a 6000lb trailer.

Anyway, the question for my build sheet, it says I have the Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler and Heavy Duty Engine Cooling.

I suspect the Heavy Duty Engine Cooling is the bigger radiator. I don’t see the Tranny Oil Cooler on the front of the radiator/condenser, so not sure I actually have one.

Most of this is listed under the Optional Equipment section.

Does that mean everything listed under Optional Equipment, the truck had it installed from the factory?

Thanks

Yep. Build sheet tells you how the truck was configured when it left the factory. The aux trans cooler that should be there is pretty good sized.... and it may be between the a/c condenser, and the radiator.... (can't recall. ) Follow the trans cooler lines, see where they go, should be obvious if there is an aux cooler there still.

Thanks for the quick response. I will be using the forums a lot, using the search feature and referencing the wild vents stickie to fix what appears to be a major vacuum leak for the wild vents and 4wd. Oh, on that note, did the intake manifold change over the years? Mine only has 1 port on each side for small vacuum line and one big port for pcv valve and brake booster check valve. My emission sticker shows 3 ports, but my intake manifold doesn’t match sticker, unless I am reading the sticker incorrectly.

Yeah, the number of ports changed over the years. Apparently, the vacuum diagrams didn't get updated. On some, the extra ports were simply capped off anyway.

I found the auxiliary trans cooler between the radiator and condenser.

I’m guessing all that is missing from the towing package that the build sheet isn’t showing is the brake controller. The previous owner added a 7-pin connector and a class IV hitch. The 7-pin connector is the standard 4-pin conversion. I can add extra wires for the brake controller and the “hot wire” to the center pin, and install a 30A breaker for everything, unless anyone else has any other suggestions.

Thanks for the help and information. Much appreciated.

Cleverly concealed. Apparently, they want the A/C to be more efficient than the trans cooler.
