Default Please help diagnose!

Hey guys I was making a cross country road trip in my 96 Dodge ram 2500 v10, At no point within the 300 miles did i overheat or have any issues. When all of a sudden as im going around 80mph I notice the RPMs going up and its taking more and more throttle to keep it at speed. Then the RPMS spiked and the oil light came on. There was some smoke coming from the exhaust underneath making me think that the rear main seal popped and spilled onto the hot exhaust. I had it towed to a storage yard and now im paying rent to keep it 1000 miles away from where i now live. Any suspected culprits? Issues sound familiar to anybody else? Please help!

Did the engine run smooth still? I would suspect a blown or leaking transmission line and as you lost fluid the trans also lost function causing the RPMs to go up

I only tried to start it once after I pulled off the side of the road, I put the remaining small bit of trans fluid I had in. the trans gave me a nasty sound so I immediately turned it off and had it towed but there was the darker fluid dripping off bellhousing though.
