1998 ram 2500
Good afternoon to all ram diesel owners. I just recently but my first ram 2500 diesel. I have a question once in a while I drive down the road snd it shifts and runs fine, then I feel like I give a full throttle and it's not accelerate. I release gas pedal step one more time and it fine again. I t happen every day at least once a day. What could cause that? Any idea and suggestions please. Thsnk you all who respond.
We really should have some more details. 1998 offered two different Cummins motors, the mechanical P pump 12valve(12v), and the electronic pump 24valve(24v). In both situations fuel filter, then fuel pump comes to mind first, but they are serviced/checked very differently. Do you have any check engine lights? Pressing and releasing the pedal makes me feel like maybe a TV cable issue to the transmission not forcing the downshift to accelerate, but even a stock Cummins should have enough power to accelerate even with OD locked in.
The engine style can easily be identified by the valve cover, the 12v will have 6 individual covers, you may be lucky enough to still have the beauty cover on top that says Cummins Turbo Diesel. The 24v will say 24 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel. The second check would be the injection pump on the left sight, the mechanical p pump 12v will have 6 fuel lines in a row sticking up. The 24valve will have 6 in a circle coming out the back.
