Hey guys! I replaced the whole dash core assembly on my 97 ram, and found out that the replacement doesn't have the connection to connect the obd scanner. So I guess my question is, am I going to have to go old school to diagnose mechanical issues? Or is there an alternative? Thanks in advance.
OBDII port should be part of the wiring harness, and just has a couple screws that hold it to the dash. Did you use your original wiring? Or the wiring that came with the dash? If the latter, what year was the donor?
The core assembly came with the harness. So the frame and harness that I originally had on it was replaced. The seller told me that the dash assembly would fit the year 94 97.
He didn't give the year other than that the compatible years were 94-97
Nope. Compatible years that are a DIRECT swap, are 96, and 97. 95 and earlier are OBDI, so, no OBDII port on those, and 98 and up, the way things work is RADICALLY different, and they are NOT interchangeable. I suspect you got a 94 or 95 dash.... 99% of the wiring is the same, except, as you noticed, the lack of the OBDII port. I *think* you should be able just replace the dash harness, with your original, and be good to go.
