Gonna need a high-zoot scanner, that can read the codes, and see what it is whining about.

Check your air bag fuses. Do your seat belts roll out and retract? You may not have belt tightening set belts, but if you do those will set the light off too. The light is lit because the system isn't working.

I have seen vehicles where the car was in a crash and the seat belts or other part of the system deployed without setting the air bags off. I gave the kid my Focus and she promptly crashed it. The bags were good but the belts deployed. Afterward, I had to have the air bag module reset to get the light off.
