I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 that needs a transmission. It has the NV 3500 in it.. is there another transmission that will interchange with that tranny?

 

NV4500, but, I think its like an inch longer. So far as I know, there is no 'direct swap' replacement trans.

 

Ever thought about going to an automatic transmission? If so, you could go with a 46RE, which was heavily used in these trucks. It is a computer controlled transmission, so the PCM would likely have to change and possibly the wiring harness.

 

Yeah I've thought about the automatic.. but I love my stick so.. but thank you for the idea to change it to an automatic.. something to keep in mind.. easier tranny to find that's for sure!!!

 

Yeah, the manuals make hens' teeth look downright common.
