Can I put a 73 318 in my 2000 dodge Dakota

You can, but keep in mind, the 2000 Dodge Dakota 5.2 is a fuel injected, computer controlled engine. The transmission is also computer controlled. It can be done, but you will have to work around quite a few things, as the 1973 318 is a carburetor engine.

Technically a 73 engine is the "LA" variant while a 2000 318 is the quite different "Magnum" variant. As AtomicDog wrote, it's not a drop-in replacement as you can not move the modern fuel injection etc over to that engine if that was your plan.

Mpfi needs the crank sensor, Non magnum blocks(LA) don't have them.
