Default Head gasket

I've had the head gaskets go out on my 1997 dodge ram 1500 with the 360 in it. How hard are they to replace and work on and two do I need to retime my engine after pulling it apart

Don't need to pull the distributor to get the heads off. So, no need to re-time anything. It's a significant job though. If it isn't something you have done before, may wanna consider having someone who has help you, or, pay someone else to do it. (not cheap) Need to have the heads resurfaced while they are off as well, otherwise, just changing the gaskets may not last very long. (it's a gamble. lotsa folks get away with not doing that..... but.... it's cheap insurance.)

Check the heads with straight edge, If you see any light under it it needs to be shaved.

My buddy just replaced HGs in a Dakota with 318 and he's got leaks in different places now.

He didn't have the heads checked for flatness because he's broke. Cheap, fast, high quality: pick TWO
