1996 Dodge Ram new Speaker issues with infinity sound system
I just got a new radio and speakers for my 96 Dodge Ram, but I’m having some issues with the speakers. They work and sound great, however when I turn the volume up to a certain point the speakers can’t handle it. I have a two wire speaker, but I have four wires to connect to. I connected the positive to the violet and the negative to the blue and red. I capped the other two. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I did wrong here?
The stock speakers had amps mounted to the speakers. (at least, for the door speakers) two of those wires are power/ground for the AMP.
How many watts are your speakers rated for, and what is the rated output of your head unit? Driving either close to their limits is going to get you some distortion.....
Moving this to second gen ram section for ya. Welcome to DF!

The speakers are Kenwood 400 watt. The head unit has a max 200 watt output. It’s a JVC KW-SX88BT
Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong..... Are the speakers tight in the mounts?
I just figured it out. The wiring was wrong. I tested the tips of the speaker wires against the tip of each factory wire and it was actually the green/black for positive and black/red for negative. I don’t know why it wasn’t wired correctly to the diagram, but the radio plays loud and clear now. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
