What i am wondering is if you were planing on putting on some better stuff then stock why didn't you tell them ahead of time? And it seems they didn't tell you what gasket they used nor did you ask. If somebody is doing a job for me i will supply the parts. Did you happen to take care of the killer dowel pin?

This is not a very common issue on 24v motors, is it something I address when im in the case yet, but i would not loose sleep at all over it on a 24v, the stepped case really makes this a non issue, ive had open alot of 300k motors that the dowel pin had not moved out at all. Just the food for though, again not advising against the repair, just saying dont loose sleep over it

Thats the problem I did tell them that I was going to put a new intake, exhaust and turbo on it becaue that was the plan before the head gasket started leaking I also discussed new injectors and a tuner with them so they knew my plans that is why they used the Xotic head studs. After more reading I am wondering if I should use a regular head gasket and do it following the directions to the T just to see if it holds because the ATS 3000 should not have caused the gasket to blow as far as I can tell. Unless I pull this thing apart and something else went wrong. The only reason I did not try to do it myself was because I did not have concrete in my pole barn ast the time and doing any work on gravel was near impossible and I was having mosture problems in there and anyting I put in it got moldy and rusted! Kind of hard pulling a head with a lift when you cant roll it across gravel LOL There are so many mixed oppinions on o ring and fire ring it is makiong my head spin lol

I guess it will all depend on what I find this weekend when I pull it apart.

I would be tempted to beg/borrow/steal a mechanics straight edge as well, and verify the head, and block mating surfaces are within spec.

The real question is what are your goals. A stock head gasket no oring, no fire ring with bolts can reliably hold over 500 hp on a daily driver. If you're looking to do rolling boosted launches all the time and pulling 30k trailers through mountain passes. I would recommend doing o rings. I see no point in fire rings unless its a dedicated 1000hp sled pulling truck, not to mention the hassle and expense of fire rings, is far beyond what 99% of people would put into a street truck. Fire rings require cutting the block. O rings just go in the head. Simple machine work done when you have the head planed. Which i would 100% have a machine shop check the head deck for flatness, maybe you could get them to come check the block also. If you have the extra money and time for it I would just do the Orings. I do not know off the top of my head the cost, so you would have to talk about it. Its just a good insurance policy, you don't have to have it but its there. I've never had to do a head gasket on my trucks, but orings would be on the list if I did.
