Default Electrical Issues

Hi there,

So I'm not quite sure what is happening here, but my 2001 Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 radio has lost power completely and sometimes the speedometer does not work.

So the speedometer has been on going since I swapped the engine myself a while back and would like to figure out why it occasionally happens, as for the radio, the only thing I can think of is: when I bought this truck, the previous owner put a red flashing light on the ceiling roughly where the rear view mirror was to indicate an "alarm". The only problem though, was it never turned off and there was no way to turn it off and if I didn't drive my truck for a week or so it would kill my battery.

So I decided to cut the wire, I pulled the red light down that was glued into place, and it was a single wire, with a resistor in line with it. I do not remember if me cutting it, that killed the power to the radio as I didn't use the truck again for some time after. I tried re-connecting the wires again and it seems like it doesn't work at all now. I checked the fuses and none of them seem to be blown. Any advice would be helpful, thank you.

Check the IOD fuse in the fuse block on the side of the dash, he probably has a cover over it, so, it doesn't look obviously like a fuse. (it should be labeled though.)

Speedo on your is driven off the rear wheel speed sensor on top of the rear diff. Have a look at the wiring behind the motor, and make sure nothing got pinched.
