Default long time to start

my 96 2500 has a gas V10 in it, the only thing about it I DONT like is the length of time it takes to start, and as a mechanic I believe its the fuel regulator, when I turn the key its like I got to wait for gas to hit all 10 cylinders before it'll start, am I correct or is there something else I dont know about

The fuel pressure regulator could cause that as it wouldn't hold fuel for initial start and run back to the tank. It would take a few cranks to re pressurize the rails and start your truck.

I know newer injector rails had a valve you could depress to see if there was fuel at the rail and connect a pressure gauge to. Let it sit for a bit. If it has one depress it, if fuel comes out it's likely not the regulator. If it doesn't I'd replace the fuel pump as I believe the regulator and sending unit are all one unit in the tank.

And check your fuel pressure at the rail. Should have 35 - 45 psi I believe.

as a mechanic

A "mechanic" would check the fuel pressure.

Prime the key 3-4 times FIRST. If it then fires right off the check valve in the tank or injector(s) are leaking down
