Default Running Rich

Howdy all,

I’ve been battling a rich condition for a long time. The engine starts prematurely when cranking (the RPMs don’t surge like normal) and idles rough. WOT is no problem with plenty of power but idle is terrible. I have an OBD-1 scan tool for my ‘95 with a 5.9 Magnum and all values are within range. Whenever I accelerate the engine sounds like it’s wheezing because the IAC valve doesn’t open enough. I did replace it with a Mopar IAC valve. New O2 sensor NTK, new catalytic converter from Magnaflow.

Any suggestions?

IAC is only active at idle. When you crack open the throttle, IAC should close up.

Have a look at your plugs. See what they look like. If it's just a couple cylinders running rich, it's a different problem from ALL of them running rich.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I will have to pull the plugs and report back.
