Default Crank but no start

So I just got a 1998 dodge ram 1500 and I put a transmission in it and it will crank over and start off of starter fluid but won’t start normally. I put about 30 dollars of gas into it and the gauge hasn’t gone up at all I’m thinking fuel pump but any easier suggestions would be great.

Might not be the fuel pump itself if it ran before, any chance you nicked wiring somewhere when putting in the transmission ? Otherwise standard troubleshooting, does the fuel pump relay click when turning on the ignition ? Is the fuel pump fuse ok ?

If the gauge isn't working, I would check that you didn't pinch a wire harness doing the trans R&R.....

Sounds like your fuel pump isn't working. Can you hear it buzz/run for a few seconds after turning the key to 'on'? You can also do a quick check of the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge at the rail...
