Default It broke (differential that is)

01 Dodge ram 5.9 QC 1500 4x4 with factory slip. Only has 60k on it and being I do alot of pulling with it I decided it was a good idea to pull the diff cover and do a quick service before I went on a 1500 mile trip being it was due. Got the rear cover off and it looked like a grenade went off. Didn't drive weird. Had parts of the clutch pack discs all through the housing. Glad it didn't just decide to blow up and lockup the rearend while I was doing 70 mph possibly killing me, my wife, my daughter, and anybody within close proximity when it decided to go. Anybody have any leads on a good aftermarket replacement. Don't want a Detroit, just want something that will work nicely in a daily driver.

The lim slip in these are suppose to be crapy, but I've never had any problems. And I don;t think many people on here have. Dealer said they keep 4-5 in stock at all times because they have to swap them on the oil company trucks.

check into a lock rite. They are a bit more aggressive than the factory lsd but much more durable. They are also easy to install.

Default 9.25 factory rear

I assumed my 01 QC would have a Dana 60 under it. I bought synthetic and a chrome Dana 60 cover. I was really surprised to find it wasn't a 60. Ford uses the 60 and 80 under their F250 and above trucks. The Dana rears have been kind of a Dodge trademark/selling feature since the 1960's.

If it is just the clutch packs that are gone, it can be rebuilt easily. If there is metal circulating with the fluid, it can tear up the ring gears spider gears.

I would like to know other manf. for the Chrysler factory 9.25" ring gear unit. A cheap traction-lok/posi traction unit for the 9.25"? Any links?
