Default No head lights on cold mornings

Hi all, new guy here.
I have a weird problem with my head lights. On cool mornings my head lights won't come on until the truck warms up. Some times two or three minutes but when cold, it can take 15 minutes. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jeff

Thats REALLY wierd... I've never heard of that on anything.

First thing I would do is check your grounds.

Also something to keep in mind is that it might/probably is not because the is cold. Theres probably something else that the truck does or you do that you just don't realize. Once it warm and you turn it off and turn it back on do they work right away?

No, I turn them off and on but they dont work. I leave them on and when they are ready they just turn on... I'll take a look at the grounding. I've seen some strange problems before from a poor ground.
Thanks,
Jeff

Could be some corrosion in your dash switch, they do coat the insides with di-electric but it can gunk up, and also the switch does heat up (which is normal) after it is on for a while which could explain why after 15-20 minutes they come on. I can't see where temperature would affect your ground for your headlights.

You can take the switch apart and clean them, I have done it before, not hard at all just take your time.

My truck did the same thing, i had to replace the switch in the dash board. It is very easy to replace and the switch costs less then $20. It is very common for the headlight switch to go out on Dodge trucks.

he has a 96 so his headlight switch will be the pull out type not the rotating type that can pull out to turn on and off the fig lights
