Default 97 Ram 4x4 shifting

Hi all, Im a first time Ram owner and may need a bit of help. I have a 97 1500 with a 360 turning a 241 T-case,(I believe), and it seems that when I'm in 4hi the shifter can be moved back into 2hi if I look at it the wrong way! Is it that easy? It seems a little bump in the road will knock it out of gear but it seems to be in 4hi. How do I remove the vacume switch from the top of the case? Thank you, if anyone knows please let me know. huttbutt..P.S. I have adjusted the linkage and checked the CAD for anything obveous.

Actually, you have a 231 transfer case...unless a 241 has been swapped in. 241s were for HD (2500+) trucks.

And yes, it's that easy to put it into 4wd and take it out. A bump shouldn't knock it out though...unless you're not getting it all the way into 4wd.

As far as your question, you might want to check out the thread at the top of the forum entitled (merry christmas...) as it contains a link to the factory service manual which has information on this and many other procedures

The vacuum switch simply unscrews, take the lines off and turn it. But that should have absolutely nothing to do with how easy your shifter moves.
