Default IDLE ISSUE

Yo, got an issue when i start my truck in the morning. Little info first. I have a 97 2500 V10 with 121,000 miles. It'll turn right over in the morning but it will not idle at 500 rpm. It will die as soon as i take my foot of the gas pedal. I have to keep it pressed down for about 3-5 minutes depending if its cold outside before it will idle on its own. Not sure when the last tune up was. The plugs and wires look good but I have the feeling that its time again but it could be something else also.

any help would be grateful....

Mine did that when the battery was dying. Not enough juice to run all the stuff. the alternator was fine . it died as soon as I took foot off the gas. Just an idea.

Cleaning the idle air control in the throttle body helps too.

The clean the IAC take off your throttle body. Theres 4 blots that hold it on. Your probably gonna have the take the throttle cable, cruise control, and trans cables off it, it'll make it easier, as well as all the electrical conecters. The IAC is on the back of the TB. 2 screws and it comes out. Take it out and spray carb/tb cleaner in the hole it was in. There will probably be a ton of crap in there. Also wipe down the IAC itselt and get it good and clean. Reassemble

UPDATE:

Swung by Autozone and had my battery checked. The battery checked good so I picked up a can of TB/Air Intake cleaner. When i took the TB off i couldn't believe how gunky it was. You guys were right! It was full of crap. Cleaned it out and waited for the morning to come and what do you know, the truck started right up with no idle issues.

thanks a bunch!

Just an FYI this was my problem on the truck I just bought. Took the TB off, took one look at the back and man was it filthy. Cleaned it up, and boy does it run like a new truck.

Anyone know why it gets gunked up so bad?
