t-case whining noise
after getting out of class tonight driving home it was HELLA crappy out... snowing.... goin down the thruway headin home i was losin traction so i put it in 4wheeldrive... it went it fine and the 4x4 light came on... after turning my blaring stereo down i noticed a whine coming from underneath...sounds like near the t-case... it would only whine at higherspeeds... the road was coverd in snow so i know it doesnt ahve to do anything with running on dry pavement... low low speeds like under 15 or 10 mph.. i didnt hear anything... but up to like 30 and 40 sometimes 50 i can here it whine pretty good...i know the t-case chain is loose and needs replacing...could this be causing the whining?
I have 30k less miles than you and mine does that a little when on the highway in 4x4 in the snow. It might be just normal due to all of the gears and stuff turning and the front ratio being 1 point higher.....
i thought of that but i tried to remember right when i got the truck i when muddin and it was the first time i had it in 4wheel and i didnt notice the whine and ive had it in many times after that havnt noticed it either... also i dont often run 50mph in 4wheel on a snowcoverd freeway either..might be the first time i had it up to them speeds and really tried to listen in... could be normal and just the first time i heard it
i'd be worried if your t-case didn't whine, its extra load and more gears and chains....slap it in 4 lo and here it whine, thats all normal operations and what not. I am one of those 4 wheel fanatics that plays with jeeps all day, this is just one of those things about transfercases.
mine duz it every once and a while i throw it in reverse (after i stop going forwards lol) and back up for a bit and it seams to fix it dont know why buy thats what works for me
yea this weekend im gonna monkey around with the truck and ill check the fluid

It's normal for a transfer case to whine...especially when it's locking the front and rear shafts together. Older cast iron full-time cases don't whine when you have them in Hi or Lo...but put em in Hi or Lo LOC and they whine just like the newer ones. Check the fluid...just for the heck of it, but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.
