Default Bad mpg

Anyone have any clues as to why my 96 ram is getting craptacular milage. I'm talkin' 7mpg on reg and 10 mpg maybe 12 if I'm extremely light on the pedal using premium.

I dunno, 13 mpg or maybe 14mpg is the best I can do with my '01 QC 5.9 ltr. Although seven mpg sounds a bit low. Dodge has admitted that their catalytic converters on the '96 -'01 trucks have the potential to die young. In that case loss of fuel mileage and/or power is a very common symptom.

Premium doesn't really help MPG...

But 7 is a bit low. Run some cleaner through your engine and check that cat.

my 95 5.9L averaged 11-12mpg. I also had an aftermarket cat.....so like the other members said....get that cat checked out.

Bad oxygen sensors can lower your mileage also.

as mentioned earlier...bad o2's, plus bad wires, cap, rotor, plugs, coolant temp sensor (causes it to run rich all the time) dirty fuel injectors, t-stat not working properly causing it to stay in open loop mode becasue it neve gets up to op temp...

Isn't the only way to even test a cat is to cut it off???
