Default C/E light

Hey guys just a quick question.... is there any way to retrieve codes without a diagnostic test... My C/E light came on this morning, of course while I am out of town, and was wondering what is going on under the hood of my baby .... any input is appreciated .... thanks

Yup - starting with the key in the off position turn it to on, then off, on, off, then back on (within five seconds) and the odometer should scroll through the codes that cause the C/E to turn on.

I checked it out just like you said.... the odometer did not scroll through any codes, but the C/E light is not on anymore.... Does that method also reset the PCM?

i have been looking for a way to check codes on 98-99 rams and havent found it up to 97 you can turn your key on-off-on off-on watch the c/e light and the 00-01 same thing on-off-on-off-of and watch your odometer ittl come up as P#### but i dont know how on the 98-99's and no one has been able to tell me yet i have a 98 and would love to know how to do it

pretty sure if you have a digital odometer and a chrysler vehicle it will work.. other then that not sure on other years ... or makes and models...

if you CEL comes on and then goes of... the codes disapear as well...it doesnt keep a memory of what the code was...you ahve to catch it with the CEL on and do the key trick to retrieve the codes...

the old ladys 02 neon does the same thing..meaning the key trick

Rampage, You may have to play with it. Make sure to give the lights on the instrument panel time to light up each time you turn it on. I thought the "key trick" was supposed to work in all 2nd gen Rams. But I've been wrong before...

check out this website it tells you how to do the on off thing and what the codes mean onm the 97 and older rams

http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/Trouble/pcm_fault_code.htm

note the part that says and tell me what you make of it

The dealer can read fault codes with the DRB series diagnostic tool.
98+ Rams do not flash the codes, but on 94-97 Rams, the owner can read the codes this way:

What you have quoted above is partially true. I know they disabled access on the 98 models. Some of it MAY have carried over to early 99 models as well. But there have been 99 owners that have been able to check their codes. 00/01/02hd owners are able to check their codes via the key/odometer method as well.
