cat converter recall new news
This is the letter i got on dec.30
This letter is to inform you that the warranty period on your vechicle's catalaytic converter has been extended to 10 years/120,000 miles or until 12/30/2006, whichever is later.
In addition,if you before 12/30/2007, your vehicle fails either a california SMOG or emissions inspection and maintenance tailpipe test due to a defective catalytic converter, or anOBD test with a catalyst efficiency code (P0420), your catalytic converter will be replaced free of charge. Bring a copy of the test results with this letter to your dealer.
DaimlerChrysler is extending the catalytic converter warranty period for youe vehicle because under certain conditions some catalytic converters may be subject to mechanical degradation that will produce a "rattling" sound or possibly lead your vehicle to fail a california SMOG test or emissions inspection and maintenance test in other areas of the country.
If your vehicle develops a "rattle" sound from the underside of the vehicle within the extended warranty period, simply contact your dealer. The catalytic converter will be inspected, and replaced if necessary, free of charge.
NOTE: This extended catalyic converter warranty does not include the replacement of other exhaust system components, If other exhaust system components require replacement, the associated repair costs are the owner's responsibility.
If you have any questions or concerns which your dealer is unable to resolve, please daimlerChrysler at 1-800-992-1997.
If you have already experienced this condition and have paid to have it repaired within the extended warranty period but prior to 1/04/2006, you may send your original receipts and/or other adequate proof of payment to the following address for reimbursement:

man, i havent gotten a letter. i do have a rattling sound from under the truck. maybe ill try and call the dealer tomorrow about this and see if they can check my VIN.
I called the dealer and my VIN was not recalled yet.....Mines rattling more and more, Im tired of waiting..Im just gonna replace it and hang on to my receipt, I cant wait for the cat to clog and just cause more problems
I would not wait for the letter to arrive for two reasons. One, it is obvious you already have a problem, so your performance and mileage is going to go tango uniform the worse it gets. Second, if you go get it now, you can get whatever cat you want (including an aftermarket brand highflow cat), then just give them the receipt when/if your letter does arrive. If you wait for the letter, you have to go get it replaced at the dealer with an oem type cat from that point on. They will not cover any others once you have the letter.

My magnaflow kit is on order
Who did you order from. Is there a specific model # or any order info for the Magna-Flow cat. I've got a 97 1500, 5.2 Auto. Not looking to go duel exhaust but plan on getting muffler at same time. I want to keep low-end torque. Will most likely end up with 50 series flowmaster. Any help or advise is appreciated.
Got mine from Summit Racing, part number MPE-23285 $149.95 and it includes the cat plus the Y pipes. very happy with it.
Go to http://store.summitracing.com and do a search on the part number.

Yeah from summit...well I was gonna order mine from summit but I see its on backorder till the 17th of feb...and I kinda need it done by the end of the month....man I should order it and get it done but i was hoping to have it by next week
i never got a letter and when i called the dealer today, service guy said that it's only until 80k. and since im @ 82k, im outta luck. i need that letter to prove him wrong [:@]
When I ordered mine, it also had that ship-on date. I ordered on a Monday, it showed up at my house by Friday, even though the ship on date was still a few weeks away. I don't know why Summit has that date on there, maybe just to give you a worse case thing, cuz it does not ship from their wharehouse. (just a guess).
