I have a 1997 1500 (just got it), it is in pretty good shape, but it has one flaw. When I am acceling slow, it hits a dead spot and spits and sputters and backfires until i let off the pedal or gun it. Any ideas??? IT is a 318 with an auto, 2wd.

 

Could be your catalytic converter that's clogged up and rattling or your intake manifold plenum gasket is leaking oil, causing a ping/detonation.
