Default Transmission bands

Hey guys I've seen alot about changing the trans fluid regulary and also adjusting the bands. I was just wondering when your sopposed to adjust the bands and is this something I can do myself. I'm pretty knoledgeable with fixing things but I've never really done any trans work accept change my fluid. Also would it be a good idea to put on a trans cooler. My truck is lifted 3" with 35" tires but I rarely ever tow or haul anything heavy.

I hope someone can help, Thanks

yes get rid of the piece of crap stock cooler and get a better one as for the bands:
The Front Band (outside the case) is Tightened to 72 in-lbs, back off 2 7/8 turns
The Rear Band (inside the case) is Tightened to 72 in-lbs, back off 2 turns

You can adjust one of the bands from outside of the transmission, to get to the other one you need to pull down the pan. Follow the link that The Burning Rom gave you. You might also want to get a Haynes manual. It won't be as detailed, but it is nice to have as a hard copy for quick references. It does give a good description for adjusting the bands.
