Default Odd things with the Hypertech

so got the programer in the mail...this thread goes out to all you fellas that have there computers programed with the PPIII

anyway... got it in the mail...not sure what size 265 size tires were i programed the computer using the 87tuner and adjusted the tire hight size to 27 inches... i know now thast way too small

the computer originally programed for the factory 275 size tires (stock)

going 80 miles an hour on my speedo...i was actually doing 75mph and the rpms were just a hair under 2500

after reprograming the computer with the incorrect size again... im looking at a hair under 2500 rpms and i was doing like 60 .. yea way off

now that i found out a my tire size is exactly 31.6 inches... i reprogramed the comptuer using that size (31.5) and still with the 87tuner

now im seeing 75mph ( witch should be accurate) and now im hitting just a hair above 2000 rpm... i went down in rpms' to stay consistant with my speed... is this normal?

also i noticed a change... going one way on the freeway 30 miles i notice the truck was acting (and reading) like it had the OEM program

and when i leave (after parked and off for 3 hours... class) it acts like i have the program on... its odd..i know and hard to explain... any ideas? maybe the computers gotta relearn like what steve talks about someitmes?

thanks guys!

Did you measure how tall your tire is when it's mounted on the truck, or just go by the specs from the manufacturer? Thats how you have to do it with the Superchips tuner. So a 295/75R16 which is 33.4" will only be like 32.3 inches when on the vehicle. Hope that helps ya!

the way the instructions said to do it is that mark a line on the tire and the pavement...allow the tire to make one revolution letting that line end up on the pavement again and mark it there..measure that distance and divide by 3.14 (pie)

witch should be really damn close to the converter i used on the net... ill try the measuring thing and see what i come up with to be sure...

To "relearn" try to find some dry pavement there in NY and go at WOT untill about 75 or 80. I think that actually "relearns" the comps sometimes.

But yeah, your RPM should have gone down... With my 3.92's and 31" tires I'm a hair above 2000 at 70mph.

20dodgeram01 thats prety good mpg for going up hills alot. I just went on a road trip and only got like 280/tank freeway on FLAT roads [:@]

use this calculator to get your tire hieght http://www.differentials.com/calc.html and to verify it, drive the wifes car (hopefully the speedo is correct) right at 70 and measure your speed using the tach... mine's around 2k at 70 with the 295's and the 4.11's. You can do that once to get a base line, then once you have your speedo corrected, verify it with the wifes car.

"But yeah, your RPM should have gone down... With my 3.92's and 31" tires I'm a hair above 2000 at 70mph. "

The RPM's should stay constant at any given speed (unless you have slippage somewhere). With his gears and small tires however the rpm's will be much higher then our trucks that are set with the gearing for the tires we have.

Must be nice to have that feature in your hypertech... mine doesnt work [:@]

yea ...when i can get her to help me out ill have her come with me to the freeway and run the speedos out..

thats what i thought .. regardless of what the speed is the rpms should stay the same..in theroy you could geuss what your speed is (depending on what gear your in..for me its OD) just buy looking at your speedo

thanks steve!

Just for comparison - I have 265/75R/16 and 3.55 gears. I left the tire size deal alone when I programmed with the Hypertech. I am doing about 1875-1900 rpms at 70 mph, and a little over 2000 at 75 mph. I checked the speedo at 60 mph against the mile markers on the highway the other night and it was right on 60 seconds....so it is right. Last mileage check I gained a little bit, but I'm waiting to go through another tank to see for sure.
