LMAO, the thread jackers trying to jack my motor now!!! Hahaha, you will have to get threw the barbed wire, mine field, attack dogs and armed guards first. Then the real security!

FYI, few years back I was using 2 worm clamps to hold my upper rad hose on. Because the flexilite fans temp sensor goes inside the uppper hose(use to found better spot) you cant use the normal clamps. On the odd wot shift it would blow steam out at the track(fog windshield). I had to check the hose & clamps regularly. One time right after some highspeed highway testing (empty highway/120mph + tests) first traffic light I left after getting off the highway the hose blew off.

Well I just crunched some numbers (even if it only took like 3 minutes )

Looks like I'm looking at a grand total of $237.18 w/tax to do my plenum and timing chain.

Buying the "lower" level kit from APS, and getting the Fel-pro Intake gasket kit and Fel-pro intake bolts from Advaned Auto. Buying it this was is actually a few cents cheaper then the kit from APS with gasket and bolts. Fel-pro is a better quality gasket too.

Next the double roller timing chain is $56.69 from Advanced, and $21.07 for the Fel-pro timing gasket set.

This would probably be like $700+ dollars to have it done by a shop and they probably wouldn't even use the same quality materials!

I threw a random $2.00 in there for the water pump gasket too, so I think that covers everything. Unless I f-up the oil pan gasket...that'll be another $40.00.

Can't wait for spring break! [:'(]

yea i esitimated way to low for mine... forgot a 150 in coolant and oil... but subconsiously i find a way to spend way more money then i should when i get into my mod fits... the motor is torn down now and im situatiing a small msd wire problem... i got the wrong ones...wish i woulda researched here and at pavement sucks.com and i would find out the right ones to get and not pay attention to what summit suggests... anywho..

took the plenum off and aprt today...and oid was flowing like i struck it in my back yard..i bet there was a good 1/8" thick film/pool in the rear part of it.. and i peaked in my runners and there was a nice film of scorched type / more lik dried oily film..black in color... and the intake ports of my heads were the same...

socha... becarefull and have a powerfull shopvac handy when you actually yank off the plenum...i got a good few tbl spoons of sand that dumped into my lifter gally... that and small bits and pieces of the old gaskets fell in there too... i shopvaced most of the stuff out...before i final assy... i got 2 gallons of the cheap crap autozone brand oil .. 5W30 .. nice and thin... and a small bottle of that motor/oil flush... im gona run half of the one gallon right ontop of the lifter gally and let it drain out with the oil that stil lin the motor... and when i put it all backtogether im gonig to run the rest of the crapy autozone oil and a bottle of that motorflush .. along with about 5 gallons of distilled water and the rad flush stuff to..run the motor for a good 10 minuints..then drain the oil/flus and the water/flush...that SHOULD get all the crap out i think... then ill fill with the good stuff...

thats the plan atleast! while im wating on my new wires im gona start fabbing up the new elec fan support..

why is it that these trucks get crap for gas mileage?? mines rated for 13 city 17 hwy.. WHY AM I ONLY GETTING 220-240 TO A TANK????

Well its simple.... the EPA stats on your window sticker is wrong. The EPA has been under fire for years about this. When I wrote them years ago about my dodge intrepid not doing close to what they said I got a letter back.... It said they are coming up with a new policy for the ratings. I dont think this takes a brain surgen here. Drive 65mph with out stopping on flat land and meter 1 gallon of gas through it and see how many miles you travel. That would give you highway. For city ... drive 35 mph and tell me how far it goes on a gallon of gas. I think the average driver can understand if you are a stopping and going you will lose some mpg or if you coast down hill for 1 mile you will get better. I think this gets way to complicated when people what if it to death. No formula will ever be perfect. I just want to know how far I can drive with out stopping for 1 mile at these speeds what should the truck get.

Most people I deal with only estimate the mpg on highway trips. Why not toss out the city estimate. Its not like we all drive the same style to the next traffic light.

If you goto the webpage they have and read how they test now you will laugh. Its stupid.

Lets hope for a simple solution.

Your gonna what???? did I read that right? I highly recommend you DO NOT push any gunk you have in the valley area into the motor. Shop vac it out our use rags to get as much of it out as possible. If you have to, yank the lifters to gain access to as much as possible. once you have it all back together and it's running agian, let the oil circulate a few minutes to pickup what it can and stuff it into the filter, then change the oil & filter. Use cheep stuff for now like you planned and swap that out in a 300~500 miles with another filter change with the good stuff.

on the radiator flush... I think it's ok to use the tap water when flushing it, use the distilled water for the final fill up.

I'll have to watch out for that, thanks for the heads up! Usually when I fluch my rad and cooling system I just take the hose and run it though the engine and rad. But I suppose your hose isn't hooked up in the dead of winter. And you don;t want water running all over your garage floor

Oh yeah, another question. Do I have to completely drain the oil to do my timing chian? I'm assuming so since you have to unbolt part of the oil pan.
