Default instrument cluster

hey guys i have a 99 ram 2500 4x4 and on my instrument cluster all i have is a speedo, gas gauge, oil pressure, engine temp, and battery gauge and i want a tach and i was just wondering if i found an instrument cluster with all that stuff with a tach and i want to know if that would work alright and i know i would probably have to wire the tach up but thats not a problem.

Actually, the wiring for the tach is probably already there. I'd think the issue would be your odomter. I know in older digital dash days, the mileage was stored IN the dash itself. I'm not sure if the Rams with the digital odometer are that way or not. Maybe someone knows for sure.

I don't think it will work. I tried to install a fancy cluster on a Ford Escort of mine. Plugged everything, started the car, and all of the gauges went haywire. I believe there are specific harnesses for different clusters. If you had the time, you could get all of the conectors, wires, and re-pin everyting. My dad did that with his Dodge minivan when he gutted another of the power locks and windows. Then again, he's a retired automotive engineer.

I had a Dodge Neon and the cluster from a sport was a direct swap into a base model. If your vehile is ODBII 96+ (most 95s too) I think the mileage is stored in the ECU. The tach signal wire is built into all harnesses (as is the case for alot of GMs too). I know my truck has it but I have no tach in the cluster.
