New comer here. This is a great forum. I have a 98 4x4 and am about to have the transmission rebuilt. What upgrades or improvements should I do? Also before the trans went up I couldn't get it to go OUT of overdrive with the gear selector button. What could this be? Thanks for any info.

 

Welcome to DF! If your getting it rebuild I would deffenitially get a TransGo SHift Kit from www.apsprecision.com as well as a big *** aux. trans cooler.

If you were having problems with it not going out of OD it could have been to the OD unit on the trans or the switch on the dash. When you can take the dash trim off and make sure all the wires are connectred and not corroded.

 

IF YOU ARE GOING TO PAY SOMEONE TO REBUILD YOUR TRANY YOU MIGHT CONSIDER BUYING A PERFORMANCE TRANS ALREADY BUILT FROM APS. PRECISION.

 

yup... APS is the way to go... talk to Wayne... read the upgrades on the tranny's on their website...

 

I'm getting someone to rebuild it. I don't have the cash flow now to get one from APS. I will get the trans-go kit. Is there anything else that I should switch up inside? How big of a cooler should I get?

welcome to DF. If you are going to rebuild, I would install the 5 pinion plannetaries, and the sonnax pressure regulator valve. You will get a new mannual valve in the Trans Go shift kit. The Overdrives are a weak link in these trans and they hate heat! Get the biggest trans cooler you can find. During the over haul make sure you flush the cooler and lines. In the lower cooler line coming off the radiator there is an inline check valve. Make sure this is clean or you will be rebuilding again. As far as the OD switch not working if the trans lost its od during its melt down (most likley) thats why it was locked out. Once shes back together and working the od will work again. You didn't say what engine or trans so I can't give a recomendation on a converter.
